Quantum and Information Technology Convention 2017

by Haifa Carina

Flew back to my hometown Cagayan de Oro this weekend to give a talk on Relevant Skills in the IT industry for the 9th Quantum and I.T. Convention (QITC). I had a momentary appreciation of legacy in action.
I’ve spoken to many events before but this one is more dear to me. 6 years ago I led a team for QITC 4. There weren’t many conventions then in my city. We hosted the event in the same exact room. Pure nostalgia.

I was not around on the 1st QITC back in 2008 but I definitely salute the guys behind it. All I know it was a joint initiative of two student organizations in Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan, the Xavier Computer Enthusiasts League (XCEL) led by Jim Paul Padayhag and AIMS (Association of Information Management Students) led by Camilo Lozano where the goal was to challenge the students’ competence, to present them with additional knowledge, and to sharpen and develop skills in IT field.

Fast forward today, there are now plenty of tech events in Cagayan de Oro by Google Developers Group (GDG), Developers Connect (DevCon) Cagayan de Oro, Cagayan de Oro ICT Business Council and more. Luckily, QITC legacy remains intact from one generation to another.
